My 7 year old daughter has been poorly since last week Tuesday. Started off with a tummy ache then by thusday she had a really high temp along with the tummy ache and also a headache. Took her drs Friday to be told she had tonsillitis. Shes been on Penicillin since Friday Morning and still very poorly with high temps, headaches and looks so unwell. Im worried as to why shes not getting better or am I not giving the antibiotics enough time:-(

She should be doing better by now. I would give the GP a call tomorrow morning as she might need a different antibiotic. Are you giving her calpol and nurofen? If you offset the doses, you can give her both if it helps her to be more comfortable. Just make sure she drinks lots to wash it all through her kidneys. Ice pops are good if swallowing is painful.

I have been giving her calpol up until today but have purchased some Nurofen to give her before bed.
I shall give the Gp a call tomorrow thank you

My 3 yr old DD has recurrent tonsillitis (currently on her 11th bout in 18 months 🙄🙄) In our experience it takes a few days for the antibiotics to really get in to her and start making a difference to her fevers and for her to start picking up, so it might just be a case of giving it more time. How long is she on antibiotics for? Mine has them for ten days and I’d say around days 4-5 are a turning point for us usually.
She has it at the moment. Started antibiotics on Saturday and I’m starting to see some small signs of improvement now.
I second neurofen - it helps to bring her fever down for a bit longer than calpol does.
Hope she feels better soon @user1473452378, tonsillitis is utterly vile. Nothing like the “sore throat” some people seem to think it is. Let us know how she gets on xxx

Weve been at hospital all day,
Drs said she had to be seen at a&e and thats what we done.
Drs at a&e said its definitely her tonsils but not sure if it is scarlet fever, told me it may be viral and that why the antibiotics are not working. Theyve suggested we continue takin the antibiotics anyway and see what happens.
I dont knw if im just overreacting Sad
