Transient synovitis/irritable hip

Hello,

Feel like I've posted a lot the past few weeks so apologies!

My son is 3 and for three weeks now he's been having issues with his hip/legs. At first it was a limp, then he couldn't walk, now he can't crawl and cries in pain when moved or placed in a different sitting position.

We've been in and out of hospital, an x ray and ultrasound came back clear. He had an MRI on Wednesday and we are waiting to hear back on the results.

The pain seems to be getting worse (or more easily triggered) so I was wondering how long this lasted for your DC if they had it? Everything online seems to say it's normally gone within 7-10 days.

Am obviously worrying it's something more serious but also would have thought the hospital would be in touch pretty quickly if they saw anything that really concerned them on the MRI.

Painkillers don't seem to be doing much and it's horrible to see him in pain/unable to play or walk. We're also due our second child in a few weeks so it's a bit of a stress!

Any experience of this much appreciated! Thank you xx

All 3 of my ds's have had irritable hip. The first two it didn't last that long but was quite bad when my youngest had it. He wouldn't weight bear at all and was in hospital for a few days. He didn't walk for a couple of weeks and it took a while to get back to normal.

DS had it and it lasted about a week, but came back several times when he had a cold.

Interesting, thank you!

The hospital called today and said they've seen something in his legs on the MRI but they're still not sure exactly what it is. So he had more bloods done this afternoon and we're waiting on more news...

My da has had it 3 times (he's 5yr old), it's horrible when you see them struggling to walk or move. All 3 times my son's has resolved within 7 days so I have no similar experience to what you're going through.

What did they see in his legs, did you get any results?

Still waiting on the next call/appointment. He said something like 'fragments' on the phone but I've no idea what that means. He didn't seem too sure either!

My son was diagnosed with this - after three weeks of limping with no improvement I took him back and he had a toddler fracture and his bloody shoes were too small!
