Painful hands and feet

About three years ago my granddaughter, then aged ten was admitted to hospital for nine weeks with painful feet and hands.Various tests were done, including blood tests, scans, M.R.I., even psychological but nothing was found. The pain became more intense during the evening to the point where she couldn't sleep and was crying a lot. All of a sudden the pain stopped.
No diagnosis was ever found but the pain, which she describes as a burning, aching sharp pain lasted all night, even waking her up every few minutes until she was so exhausted she would get some brief sleep. One other symptom was a loss of body weight.
Now this problem has just returned and she is in a lot of pain. Normal pain medicines are not having any effect. . She has been to the doctor and I will have to take her back but she is worried she will have to go to hospital again.
Has anyone ever experienced this issue. I would welcome your feedback.
Thanks.
