Osteomyelitis in babies

Hi everyone, my LB was born with osteomyelitis in his femur, septic arthritis in his hip and many abscesses around his thigh. We found out when he was 3 weeks old. He’s had several surgeries and IV antibiotics for 6 weeks plus 4 weeks of oral to clear the infection. He’s now infection free but we’re left with the lasting damage. His immune system is awful, he picks up everything! I have 2 older children (5&7) and he literally is never not ill. He has no femoral ball, no hip joint and his leg is shorter due to restricted blood flow. We’re unsure if the infection has affected his growth plate so we will only know with time whether the leg will grow as normal. Right now there’s around an inch difference in length, he’s behind development wise (understandable) and he’s under physio. He’s also refusing to eat foods, HV says it could be damage caused by the intubation for surgery, apparently it’s quite common for them to end up with sensitivity which puts them off eating! He’s 9m old. I’m wondering if anybody has been through similar and possibly has any advice?

We can see this thread was posted a good few days ago now, but we thought we'd give it a bump in case there's anyone around who has some advice and support for the OP.

Sending good wishes to you and your boy, @Tkem Flowers
