Cough just not going away

DS has had a cold followed by a sore throat and cough.
He's had the cough for about two weeks now and it's just not shifting. It's worse at night as soon as he goes to bed he just cough cough coughs 😩 I took him to the Doctors last week and they listened to his chest and said it was clear and it was.... Wait for it..... 'Just viral' 🙄
I just don't know how he is going to get rid of it he can't cough it up so will it just go?!
I'm Thinking of taking his back to the doctors.

Worth looking into whether it's post-viral cough variant asthma; our GP has prescribed a salbutamol inhaler in the past for this (and it worked a treat). It could be asthma even if there's no wheeze. I'd definitely go back and ask whether this is a possibility.....
