HELP - Really high pitched cry that I don't recognise

Hi all,
About an hour ago my 12 week old son woke with a really high pitched scream. I was so shocked as I'm quite used to his waking routine now and it was earlier than usual and he didn't stir first he just very suddenly started this horrible high pitched cry. When I got him up he was writhing around and just screaming. It really scared me as wasn't anything like I'd heard from him before. Checked his body for rash or anything that I thought could be causing pain and couldn't find anything. Checked temp and it was normal. He drank 2oz of formula then refused any more and has now fallen back to sleep. Any ideas on what could have caused this? And would you take him to GP in morn even though he doesn't have any symptoms? I'm a 2nd time mum & have never heard a cry as distressed as that.

Thanks

This happened once with my five month old and never again (now 4). Just screaming, couldn’t really wake her or calm her. We were getting ready to take her to A&E when she stopped and she never did it again. Seemed like some sort of night terrors but obviously really young for that.

How is he now?

symptoms

Does he have any of these symptoms? Or is he different than normal?

If so, straight to A and E

check his fingers and toes and penis - he might have a hair tourniquet

I wondered about testicular stricture, and hair tourniquet. Has he any sores, chicken pox spots or anything he's peed on, around his nappy area?

It does sound too young for night terrors!

I do hope he's ok. Hopefully he's fine and never do it again! Hope you're ok too, upsetting and scarey Flowers
