DD’s eyes thick with sleep

Hi. DD is 15 months and every morning she struggles to open her eyes because of a build up of crusty sleep. I have to wash her eyes with luke warm water to soften it. She gets very distressed and it can hurt her if she tries to open her eyes. Just wondering if anyone else has had this and what they did?

Conjunctivitis? We used otc chloramphenicol for my son but he was 3. we only needed to do it for a few days and it had cleared completely. I think they recommend using cooled boiled water to clean eyes so you don't introduce any more bacteria.

It could be, but her eye doesn’t seem pink. I will try using cooled boiled water. Maybe I am just putting more bacteria into her eyes and that’s causing it. Thank you

Allergy?

Possibly. I’ve just googled and it could be an allergy causing it. I will monitor that. Thank you

Hello - sounds like mild blepharitis to me, when the eyelids get clogged up. You can gently wash your daughter's eyelid rims before she goes to sleep with a tiny bit of baby shampoo diluted in water (it won't sting) on a cotton wool pad, and again in the morning. Try to rub the pad over the closed eye paying attention to where the eyelashes are. Over time her eyes should feel better.

@ontologicallou just read up and it sounds just like her. I will try to do that, I’ve only been cleaning in the morning so hopefully a second wash will help
