The dreaded Flu

Unfortunately it's that time of year where the flu is rife and my partner has come down with it quite bad. My baby is only 5 weeks old and I'm so scared she is going to get it.

We are staying in separate rooms so my partner is staying away from our baby. I was never offered the flu jab when I was pregnant also.

Does anyone has experience with this? As I am worried she is going to get it and it will not be nice at all if she does.

Are you breastfeeding? If you catch the flu you will produce antibodies to it which your baby will get via your breast milk. This should offer some protection.

You sound as though you know you SHOULD have been offered the flu jab? You should have been told to get one.

Make sure you've had the whooping cough vaccine. If your Midwife forgot to tell you about the flu jab she may have forgotten this as well.

All you can do is be fastidious with hand washing. Don't use the same towels as your partner etc.

If baby gets it I'd see your GP straight away especially because I don't think such young babies are supposed to have paracetamol (according to the info on the box) so you’ll need advice on that and whether you can safely use it under doctor’s guidance and what the correct dosage would be.
