Toddler blood test results

My 2 year old had some blood tests for reoccurring thrush in her mouth and different infections.

When we had the test she had been fine for some time. I’m a bit worried because the test has come back 40 for ESR (it says it should be 1-8) it says it will be retested in 2 months but is probably due to “inflammatory response secondary to infection” but she hasn’t had anything wrong for ages that I’m aware of.

Thyroid, blood count, calcium, sodium etc was all normal.

I’m really concerned from googling high ESR. Do I need to be worried? I’ve booked a phone call appointment but can’t put my mind at rest!

A lot of blood tests including ESR can be elevated for non-specific reasons. If there are no concerning symptoms, retesting at a long interval seems sensible. You can always take your child to be seen if the situation changes eg she becomes unwell.
