Infected chicken pox

DS is 6. He's had chicken pox since Friday.

I'm concerned that some of his spots are infected but I'm not sure as the areas of concern are pink rather than red. They're not hot. He says they don't hurt when I touch them.

He's still out of sorts and was very itchy last night. Piriton didn't seem to help.

Or is it just a bad case of CP? More spots appeared this morning.

Photo of spot on his forearm just below the elbow attached.

TBH it looks like they've been scratched/rubbed to ease the itching than are infected. They're not hot which is a good sign, infected areas often get hot.

Spots can keep coming for a while after the first ones. Poor DD2 had a fresh crop erupt after her first ones started scabbing over.

The blisters still appear clear rather than puss-filled but if in doubt take some photos and get a pharmacist to look at them.

They don't look infected to me. The blister hasn't even burst - that's when infection can get in (especially if scratched with dirty fingers).

Both my DC had spots appearing in waves for the first week. It was never-ending.

Phew!
Thank you for the reassurance. I'm a bit sleep deprived.

My DD had infected CP spots and had pus running out of them - this is not infected.

If you want draw around the redness with a biro to see is the redness is growing.

Keep an eye on his temp and if it doesn’t come down with calpol then ring the doctor. I wouldn’t take him unless you really had to.

We ended up in hospital and in isolation. You don’t want that.
