Rash

This morning my DS woke up and his chest was covered in a rash. He's only 2mo, he hasn't been drinking as much milk as usual and hasn't been settling as much the past two days. The doctor wasn't really interested in looking and says it's just a viral infection but I'm still a bit worried. Just wondering if anyone might have any other ideas of what it could be ?

Looks like roseola, I’d give him calpol. What about seeing your HV to put your mind at rest? x

So wasn't too sure if she'd be able to diagnose it, he's only a month old so can't give any calpol yet. I was gonna take him to the pharmacy to have someone there look at it just incase he needs anything prescribed

At that age with less milk intake & rash i would get some advise tonight, did you see the GP today?

YouBoggleMyMind · 16/01/2020 19:42

I'd also be getting him checked again. Does he have wet and dirty nappies? Fever? Is the rash all over? My other thought was Scarlett fever in which case antibiotics are needed.

Seen the GP today he said just a viral infection, they weren't wanting to see me today but I told them I wanted him to be looked at. He had a quick look said it was viral and just walked away to go on his computer and that was it. The rash seems to have got worse since this morning. He's still drinking milk just not as much as he usually does and still getting wet nappies

I've had three children and I'm a HCP (I Optometrist though so I'm better on eyes.)
I also think it's viral, but if it was my child, I'd have him down A&E - he's only 2 mo and has a very under developed immune system. They won't be cross at you going with such a small child.

I'd also be going for a second opinion not worth it with such a young baby x

DecemberSnow · 16/01/2020 20:21

I would be taking baby to a&e

elvislives2012 · 16/01/2020 20:22

I'd want a second opinion too. Have they got a temperature? In a baby so young who is off feeds and reduced wet nappies they need another look at x

lampplease · 16/01/2020 20:33

Just pack a bag & head down to A&E they won't mind at all - worth checking

Sadiee88 · 16/01/2020 21:05

Ah my toddler is 3 completely forget what you can /can’t give.
Does he have a temperature? I’m in Wales and we have an out of hours NHS line we can ring and a doctor calls you back? You can then go to the children’s A&E unit. Do you have that..?

xJune88 · 17/01/2020 16:08

Really hope all is ok x

Thanks for everyone's replies ! It's just a viral rash, second one he's had and he's only a month old. Poor little guy hasn't had a break with illnesses since he was born
