Blue lips and fever

My 4 year old has been sniffly and had a temperature for a few days but also noticed that this evening she has had a blue tinge to her lips and shivering slightly? Has anyone else had similar experience with their child having a fever and blue lips too?

Not sure what to do as she is eating and drinking ok and seems alright apart from this!

I would phone 111 for this

I would ring out of hours. Never be complacent with under 5s.

Yes my dc and they had pneumonia, I would ring OOH, sounds like her oxygen levels might be low

Can you do the thing where you time how many times she breathes in and out in a minute, someone else will know what it’s called but I believe it’s a good indicator

raindropsfallingonglass · 10/01/2020 21:51

I’d actually consider a&e for this. You don’t have a sats probe, you don’t know what her observations are like. She could be really quite unwell and needs to see someone urgently

My daughter had constabr shivering and a fever when she was about 5, called 111 and they sent an ambulance out to us. She was fine, by the time we got to a and e she was back to normal, but I wouldn't take any chances - call 111 or take her straight to a and e if you can. Hope that she is ok.

I would also phone 111 and if a long wait I would go to A&E.

How is she in herself?

Wrigleys123 · 10/01/2020 21:56

Thanks all she is asleep now but I'm going to call 111. As I said she seems fine in herself playing and eating/drinking but the temperature and the blue lips combination is worrying me.

@Wrigleys123 a fever with blue lips and shivering is extremely serious and can be an indication that the body isn't coping with whatever infection it's fighting. Like others have said get medical attention as soon as possible. I speak from experience my son had this whilst battling tonsillitis, we took him to out of hours and he was immediately admitted to have iv antibiotics, we almost lost him, another few hours and it would have been sepsis.
