Any experience/advice? 10 month old has had a throat infection with temps up to 41. Been seen by the docs a lot. Had started to get better, then temperature back up to 41 again. Saw doc again - still (or another) throat infection - said to give Calpol and Nurofen. Did that (staggered the two medicines) before bed. DD kept waking so checked temp and it was down near 35!! Off for an out of hours appointment but is this at all normal?! Am first time parent and never know if just being neurotic.

My little one had that, by the time we got to out of hours it was back to normal. You are right to get that checked but the drs were relatively blasé about it. Trust your gut and get her checked Smile

Glad to hear you're getting it checked out. It's possible to get cold if you've a bad infection as well as very hot. Let us know how you get on at out of hours, hopefully you're seen quickly.

ShowOfHands · 09/01/2020 22:00

A low temp is a sign of infection as much as a high one.

Hope your little dd is better soon.

Flossie44 · 09/01/2020 22:10

You’ve done the right thing to get her checked. Cold is also a worry. Let us know how you get on

AnyFucker · 09/01/2020 22:12

That is quite worrying. I hope you are seeing a doctor as we speak.

Keep a close eye, if breathing changes, becomes clammy, drowsy or mottled take straight to a&e rather than ooh.

MissRatherTired · 09/01/2020 23:15

That happened dd when she was 4, with v bad tonsillitis and a temp of 41.1. I was alternating calpol and nurofen and she was on antibiotics. I found her temp down at 35 after the nurofen dose. Spoke to 111 paramedic and he reassured me that it wasn't necessarily a worry.
I think I drew the (completely unfounded on any medical knowledge of course) conclusion that the antibiotics had her infection under control and perhaps the nurofen AND calpol were no longer BOTH necessary. Think i stopped alternating then and stuck with one. But see what the ooh says. You're definitely right to have dd checked. All the best x

We had this before on a couple of occasions. In our case I think it was the Nurofen which reduced his temp so much.

Always best to get it checked out though

Thanks all - really appreciated your comments last night. Doc wasn’t worried at all... and yes I think it was the Nurofen that brought it down so much. Will stick with Calpol today and see how we go. Poor mite is still very under the weather.

Re the mottled skin red flag - she goes mottled every time she has a temperature... frightens the life outta me but doc says it’s normal for her 🤷🏻‍♀️

Glad you got her checked out and it is nothing too worrying. Hope she starts to improve soon.
