Abnormal liver blood test

My DS has just had his blood results back and his liver test was abnormal, does anyone have experience with this or know what it may indicate? We have to wait a week to see the dr so wanted to put my mind at rest.

It depends a bit on the situation that the tests were being done in but assuming a health child whose symptoms haven't generated lots of concern in themselves and the tests are being done non-specifically; it is quite common to have a couple of abnormal results especially on the liver tests as they can knocked off by viral infections or no reason at all.

In general the outcome tends to be that medics are happy to wait and see what happens with the symptoms, or might repeat the tests after a period of time.

Thank you @Iesugrist that's really helpful.

He is usually heathy and hardly ever ill but he fainted for the first time recently so dr ordered bloods to check and referred him to see a paediatrician. Im pretty sure he fainted as he was too hot in his hobby club and there is a family history of fainting/feeling faint when hot but when results came back I panicked in case it was something more serious.

There is no single ‘liver test’ so the significance of the result depends which blood test it is. Who gave you the result? The reference ranges for many things for kids are different to adults and different for different age kids so unless you’ve seen that the result is outside the normal range for your child’s age I wouldn’t worry at all.

It was the receptionist who gave me the results so I didn't get a proper break down, just that the rest of the bloods were fine and an abnormality with liver one. Wish they could give more info when giving the results as I'd have been less worried if I had more details rather than just a vague answer.
