Toddler tonsils

My DS has huge tonsils, to the point where they take up most of his throat except for a small part in the middle.
We're waiting for an ENT referral but had anyone else had this? He snores a lot although I don't think he has sleep apnea which seems to be a main concern with toddler tonsils based on Dr Google. Has anyone else had this and did they shrink down or did they have to come out?

My DD2 and DS both had big tonsils, I think it's quite common. they had sleep apnea so DD had hers out at 4 after an ent referral at 3, and DS had further complications with them which meant he had them out shortly after he was 2. I think they grow until they are 8 after which they start to shrink.
