6 year old hard penis

BettyBoo246 · 29/12/2019 20:41

So my 6yo ds has just got out of bed complaining he needs to go the toilet but can’t wee. His willy is hard and red/sore looking at the end.
He is complaining it’s hurting him.
Any ideas? Shall I take to walk in or a&e or just leave it to see if it rectifies itself?
He isn’t in agony or anything but I’m worried if he gets urine retention it can be serious Confused

Ring 111?

GreenGrove · 29/12/2019 20:42

111

Northernsoullover · 29/12/2019 20:43

Ring out of hours.

FREEM · 29/12/2019 20:43

I'd give it an hour or so to se e if it improves and if not phone out of hours.
is it ballooned at the end

BettyBoo246 · 29/12/2019 20:46

No it’s not ballooned (yet) But it’s been hard for about 30 mins now with a sore tip. I’ve brought him downstairs to try and take his mind off it see if that helps. I’ll give it another half hour and maybe call 111 then if it doesn’t get any better

Stupid question but is it not just an erection type reaction that will by default make it hard to wee???

DS often has a hard penis if he wakes in the night - absolutely nothing sexual - just a mechanical / physical thing.

BettyBoo246 · 29/12/2019 20:51

@FusionChefGeoff my dh thinks it’s just this but would it still be sore at the end?

Can you put him in a lukewarm bath and have a tap running. The combination of the warm water and the sound of running water might help him wee. Add some bicarb of soda to the bath water to soothe it.

fairydustandpixies · 29/12/2019 20:56

Warm bath. It may be an infection under the foreskin. The warm water will draw it out. Let him urinate in the water too if he can. Same thing happened to my eldest but do take him to the GP asap.

fairydustandpixies · 29/12/2019 20:59

And if its comfortable, encourage him to gently pull the foreskin back. When it happened to my eldest at a similar age, I remember him screaming that worms were coming out of him but it was the infection in the water.

Spitsandspots · 29/12/2019 21:09

It will if he has been endlessly playing with it. Like my DC did.
Sudocrem helped.

BettyBoo246 · 29/12/2019 21:09

Ok I’ve got the bath running 🤞🤞

It’s gone down! Thank you so much guys for your help. Let’s hope that’s the end of it Smile

It's probably just stretching the foreskin when hard if he can't retract it yet, which can cause pain, it will free up over time. If he's walking around naked it can be uncomfortable if his hard willy swings around too.

As others have said let it float around in a warm bath this will help it go down or at the very least soften/free up the skin.
