DS 8 months non-stop coughing

dcib · 28/12/2019 23:09

He's woken up and suddenly won't stop coughing and sneezing. The cough sounds really deep and chesty and he's not stopped doing it for the last 10 mins.

What can I do for him? Sad

Anyone?

Shower? Steam helps a cough.

dcib · 28/12/2019 23:20

@LittleReindeer he's only 8 months. I wouldn't want to give him a bath at this time because he always gets worked up after one.

Croup? the hot steam may help open up his airways. He doesn't have to go in the bath, just sit in the hot steamy bathroom. You'll be off to A&E if you can't get it settled.

dcib · 28/12/2019 23:22

@ragged NHS website says don't sit in steamy room or inhale steam if croup

I showered my DC from 3 months old (got in with him), there isn’t an age limit. The steam should stop the coughing and open his airways. It’s not ideal late at night but better than choking because he can’t stop coughing.

dcib · 28/12/2019 23:26

@LittleReindeer Ah I see what you mean now, I'll try this with him. The cough sounds awful Sad

Cold air can help. Take him outside for a few minutes.

Kanga83 · 28/12/2019 23:35

Ring 111 and let them decide. Could be croup, bronchiolitis, chest infection, tonsillitis but I wouldnt do anything until you speak to them if he's not been like this before

WonderWomanBra · 28/12/2019 23:35

Try the steam. Please keep us updated.

LakeFlyPie · 28/12/2019 23:39

Steam is no longer recommended for croup and none of us know why this baby is coughing.
OP - please ring 111 and speak to a medical professional who will ask the correct questions and give you best advice.
I know how scary a non stop coughing baby can be, hope he's ok.

catchingzzzeds · 28/12/2019 23:45

Another one to say no to steam, phone 111

ragged · 29/12/2019 00:17

Sorry I gave bad advice, friends swore by it years ago!
In that they always found it worked for their croupy kids. Much nicer than ambulance rides.

Let us know what happens.

R U ok, dcib?
