He has had a cough for literally three weeks now but it's gotten a lot more severe
Have given occasional cAlpol during this stretch where he looked and sounded like he was suffering

For the last 20 hours he has a temperature which earlier responded to calpol which I gave him because he was crying when he coughed

He has just been given some milk changed and I took his temp it's 39.3

He isn't complaining should I give calpol or do I take him to a&e the nhs guidelines aren't clear

I would phone 111, a 5 month old with a temp of over 39 probably needs checking.

cultmaskid · 27/12/2019 01:54

If they aren't complaining would you give them some calpol still? There is bronchioitis going around and I'm starting to wonder if he has this and may need some antibiotics

Give calpol for a fever that high, my baby gets calpol for low grade temps.

Phone 111 for advice,

Antibiotics aren't given for broncholitis because it's viral.

Tolleshunt · 27/12/2019 01:57

111, that’s an awfully high temp.

alexdgr8 · 27/12/2019 01:58

do not leave this.

either ring 111, or take him straight to A&E.

please let us know how you get on.
check skin for any signs of mottling. ?any aversion to lights?
encourage sips of water or milk. is urine output normal.
good luck.

cultmaskid · 27/12/2019 02:00

I'll give him calpol now
Thanks ladies and I'm going to ring 111
No rash
No motley skin
Not floppy etc
Just hot

Also that's what some babies were told I socialise with but in the end the doctors have said they did think anti biotics could be helpful so maybe there's bacterial chest infection going round too

I will come back with an update thank you all

His temperature is 37,5 now thankfully
That's before the calpol could have even worked
Maybe he got too hot in his blanket so I have taken it out of his cot

Going to check him in an hour. He is fast asleep and not coughing at the moment.

Calling GP first thing

Can he have ibuprofen can’t re What age they can have it from as can have both ibuprofen and calpol. My daughter has had 2 febrile seizures and been told that give calpol first but ibuprofen should bring temperature Down quicker if need it

cultmaskid · 27/12/2019 03:40

@Millymollymandybestie I got told the same as you. Thankfully his temp is now 36.8 so it's a nice safe one now.
I wonder why he was so hot.
First thing I'll phone the doctor as he is just very congested and I want to see what they think. He sounded like he had croup yesterday

I took him to the doctor today
He said that his chest is clear even though the cough sounds horrendous and soo rustly
Has had no more fever
He is grumpy though
I've been giving him ibuprofen today
We have a script for amxoicillin if no improvement by tomorrow
Poor sausage keeps crying
