Ear Infection?

My ds who is 2, has had a cold for a few days, cough and snotty nose and then last night was really upset and touching his ear so we got him to the GP last night. They said his ear was red and possibly infection so gave us medicine (we didn't want to be stranded Xmas day with him in pain)

This morning though he seems much better and has lots of wax come out of his ear, is that a good or bad sign? He's had his medicine and some ibuprofen as she recommended and seems happy enough - I'm just worried if the wax means something else or is that what happens with an infection?

My dd gets this a lot and usually there is a lot of wax. I'm pretty sure as long as it's not blood streaked then it's fine.
From experience when the wax comes out things will start to improve.

Hope your ds gets better soon.

Sometimes when the ear drum bursts it discharges either puss or wax (glue ear). They usually feel much better once this happens. The puss is yellow or green. Wax is more a dark red brown. My dd has this as an I'm going thing. Ibuprofen works better for pain than calpol
