Possible tonsillitis- wait it out, or see GP?

Just looking for a bit of reassurance really. My 8 year old has a high temperature, which is coming down a bit with ibuprofen/ paracetamol. Her throat is very sore and she is generally not well, curled up on sofa feeling sorry for herself. Also coughing a lot. She is eating a bit and I'm making sure she has plenty of fluids. The NHS website says no need to see GP, just wait it out. Is there anything else I can do to help her?

Does she have white spots on her tonsils? Just use your phone light to check. If she does, she'll probably need antibiotics. I had tonsillitis recently and I was miserable for several days, until I could make it to the gp. The antibiotics started working within hours, it was very fast.

I'd see the GP. DS was sent home from school with tonsillitis on Tuesday. He was white shaking sore throat he got much worse as the days went in. I had to call an expensive call out Doc Thursday he has tonsillitis chest infection and flu symptoms, his temp spiked every time the paracetamol and ibrufon wore off.
I wouldn't wait kill it before it starts.

If white spots get to go asap as bacterial. If streaky red only then you can sit it out. If her temp spikes go to docs though.

I would go doctors, also if your daughter suffers quite frequently with tonsillitis you're better off getting it recorded at that GP because you have to have it a number of times a year or in a period of time to get them removed nowadays!

I've had tonsillitis with white spots many times, doesn't always need antibiotics. As it's the weekend I would try to wait it out unless she gets worse.

Thanks everyone. Just had a look, no white spots. I think we will see how she goes today.
