I posted this on parenting but probably better here!

My DS is 13 weeks old and has always had what look like indented veins on his head. Never thought much of them but his hair has got really light recently and I'm finding it's all I can look at now.

Idk if it's me (I've got post natal depression and anxiety which I know doesn't help) but has anyone else had this?

It’s just the shape of his skull. Look at this diagram and you’ll see a join between two skull bones here. It’s completely normal don’t worry.

It's a skull suture

Completely normal. The diagrams above show the sutures that will fuse by the time baby is approx 3-4 years old.

Nc1468 · 08/12/2019 16:53

I've attached another photo, you can see there is the one main line and a couple of bits coming off - is that still normal?

I'm an absolute nervous wreck of a FTM (waiting for tablets to kick in!) And this has really got to me!

How about seeing ypur gp or HV just to put your mind at rest ?

Anxiety like this will ruin the precious early months with your baby.

Nc1468 · 08/12/2019 17:00

I'm seeing HV on Tuesday so hopefully she'll agree it's skull sutures. Is that what you think it is too even with the new picture?

I've always had anxiety but this is a whole other level. It's robbing me of my son and it's awful. Just hoping everyone will agree it's fine and sutures and I might actually sleep tonight 😬

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 08/12/2019 17:09

Aww. I hope the HV can reassure you.

Baby's skulls are not fully formed at this age. The "soft spot" where you can actually see and feel a pulse is formed by a junction of 3 suture lines.

Take care and give your precious boy a squeeze. He looks gorgeous.

Nc1468 · 08/12/2019 17:15

So do you still think sutures? I hope she can too!

If it's not this it's something else ATM... Hoping to feel better soon because this is crappy!

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 08/12/2019 17:34

I still think it is sutures and fine, pale, translucent skin.

Speak to your HV though....don't take the word of an internet sprite like me

Nc1468 · 08/12/2019 17:42

Thank you, it's made me feel so much better already.

I'll check with her on Tuesday but thank you for taking the time to reply to me and listen to my rambling xx

Agree with the other posters, definitely looks just like suture lines and you will feel a little indentation. If you feel the other side of the head it will be similar.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/12/2019 23:12

I'm a peadiatric nurse. That looks like a completely normal baby head!

Nc1468 · 09/12/2019 05:12

@Toddlerteaplease thank you so much you have no idea how helpful that is 🙈 did you see the second picture I put up?

I should just never Google stuff. He's always had it but my anxiety is really high ATM so my imagination has run away with me a bit, that plus Google is never a good combination.

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 09/12/2019 09:10

Yes it's fine. He looks very cute!

SuperSimpleSnogs · 09/12/2019 09:17

Looks absolutely fine and normal to me OP!

Nc1468 · 09/12/2019 09:23

Think I was so concerned because it's not just one line it has those bits coming off the side but if that's normal it makes me feel so much better! Was worried it looked like a crack or something but I guess this is normal?

OP posts:
Nc1468 · 09/12/2019 16:12

MIL has him this afternoon and she just sent me a photo of him, does this look normal to you? Idk if I'm being too sensitive but it's all I can see!

Aren't you seeing the HV tomorrow ?

Speak to her and please stop looking for strangers to ease your anxiety

I think you need more help than an anonymous forum can provide

Have you posted these pictures anywhere else, love ?

Toddlerteaplease · 09/12/2019 22:31

It's a normal suture line. Please get some help for your anxiety, you need to enjoy your baby. He won't stay little for long!

Wolfiefan · 09/12/2019 22:33

Please do seek help for your anxiety. There is nothing anyone can say to reassure you until you address that issue.

AnyFucker · 10/12/2019 18:58

Did you speak to the HV ?

Nc1468 · 16/12/2019 16:06

I didn't, she was unwell and had to cancel the appointment. I spoke to the GP and they confirmed it looked fine to them.

Thank you for your help everyone

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 16/12/2019 17:16

You need to deal with the anxiety itself.

Nc1468 · 16/12/2019 17:41

Thank you, I am working on it ATM but these things take time unfortunately.

Thanks everyone again ☺️

Wolfiefan · 16/12/2019 17:41

They do. But are you working on it with the help of medical professionals?

Nc1468 · 16/12/2019 17:47

Yep ☺️
