Break or sprain?!

Hi, my son has Injured his foot playing football, another player stood on his foot with studs! The pain is in the top of the foot, The foot is slightly swollen he explains the pain as a lot worse when he puts pressure on it or tries to walk, he’s resting now! Just wandering if anyone has any experience on this I don’t think there’s a fracture maybe badly bruised or sprain? Just waiting for partner to return home to take us to Minor injuries though I don’t want to waste their time if it’s “just a sprain!” Thanks

Not possessing x-ray eyes I unfortunately cant help you. Take him to minor injuries that's what they are there for it is not wasting their time.

Try ice and raise it see if that helps?
My dad has ended up 3x having x-rays in wrist this year as it swollen and hard move fingers.so far all have been sprains....

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/12/2019 14:33

*DD not dad!

Thanks for the advice! I’m off to minor
Injuries I just need to wait for my partner to come home! We have iced it, just wandering if it means a break then they typically swell quite quickly and normally very swollen, just from experience but he will be off to MI in the next hour or so x

Damn, I can't seem to activate my x-ray vision Grin take him to minor injuries to be on the safe side

PaquitaVariation · 07/12/2019 14:40

Unlikely to be a sprain if the injury was caused by someone standing on him. Impossible to tell if it’s broken though without an X-ray (and evening then they sometimes get missed!)

Thank you, I suppose the reason I posted was because it doesn’t seem like a typical break, the swelling isn’t too bad and it’s only really painful if he tries to put pressure on it, as I said I’ll be taking him
To Minor injuries but will be unable to
Get X-ray until Monday as our local hospital only does X-ray Monday-Friday x

minor injuries (if they do x-rays) or a&e. and don't wait 'til monday, go now.

Samcj02 · 07/12/2019 14:52

I’m off to minor injuries today but my local hospital doesn’t offer xrays at the weekend, when my daughter had a break on a Saturday they told us we had to wait until Monday for
An X-ray! X

There are so many little bones in the foot they wont be able to tell if there is a break without an X Ray. In surprised they only X Ray Monday to Friday what happens if you break your leg on a Saturday?!

Samcj02 · 07/12/2019 16:15

Thanks, the reason being is we are a small community hospital and they don’t like to refer you to the nearest city hospital unless it’s urgent, it’s so overstretched as it’s erves the whole of our county I’d like to think they would with an obvious break such as a leg x

I fractured my foot as a teenager, and actually went a week and carried on my usual activities like horse riding despite being in pain when i walked. It barely swelled or even bruised, only way you could really tell was once it was xrayed they could see it! Get him checked out best be safe than sorry, you wont know til you are there
