Vomit after cough

My DS in reception class coughed, gagged on the cough and brought up his breakfast in class. School sent him home and have excluded him for a further 48 hours for vomiting. This includes an exclusion from his first Christmas performance.

AIBU in thinking this is an overreaction by the school?

Do I have a right of appeal to this fixed term exclusion?

Sounds sensible and if it's the school policy and most are the same they're not a lot you can do about it.

It's worth talking to school if he's had no subsequent vomits and no temperature and no signs of a poorly throat.

2 of my dc do this a lot. We got a letter from the paediatrician to give to the school because the school were insisting that they stay at home for 48 hours after vomiting but also moaning that they had high levels of absence. We only got the letter because they do it a lot though. One has asthma and reflux and the other has rumination syndrome. Assuming your son doesn't cough and vomit regularly I think you are going to have to keep him off for 48 hours, sorry.

Sorry, I know it’s frustrating but it is sensible of the school to insist he stays off. It makes it very difficult for them to enforce other times when other children’s parents are selfish and send children into school. I get that you know he’s not poorly, just enjoy the extra cuddles and Xmas magic with him

Quick update:

After considering the facts, the headteacher agreed to allow DS to attend school today. The reception performance was a blast. Hmm
