Irregular heavy periods 12 year old

So DD is 12, started periods in June. To start with they were ok and not too frequent, but last few months we've had ridiculously heavy (which I phoned GP about and was told it's normal for early days) and now seems to be having a period every couple of weeks.
Is this usual? Other daughter never had this and neither did I.
Don't want to be at the doctors for no reason. Hope it just settles.
Anyone had similar and did it calm down naturally?

My daughter has heavy periods - though regular. GP prescribed transexamic acid tablets to take on first four days of period and help reduce blood flow. Is your daughter ok taking tablets?

Hello, thanks, yes not too bad. The frequency is annoying and getting in the way of hobbies as she will only use towels. Not sure I'd like her on the pill at her age due to dvt risks, although this may be difficult from my day!
