Ideas for glue ear?

DS has always struggled with his sinuses etc. He's had his tonsils out and had grommets twice but now the winter colds are setting in his glue ear is as bad as ever! We don't want to put him through surgery for grommets again - any suggestions for other solutions we could try which might help? We tried the nasal balloon thing last year but it made no difference - is it worth persevering?

My daughter had two lots of grommets, tonsils and adenoids out. The grommets seemed to work for 12 months until they fell out and then back to glue ear again. It gradually improved as she got older and was pretty much gone at 9yrs except when she had a bad cold.

As @Poppy3249 said they do grow out of it. I had three sets of grommets and my adenoids our snd grew out of the glue ear age 9 or 10.
My DD started much younger 5 months had bilateral myringotomies ( ear drums burst) at 5 months and a mastoid abscess lanced. Antibiotics around 9 times a year and then grew out of it a 3 years of age.

Thanks both. He's 6 at the moment so probably a couple of years until he will grow out of it. Just wondered if anyone had non-surgical ideas which might help get us through the next couple of winters! His deafness is very noticeable at the moment bless him. We're trying frequent ear popping and a nose spray with xylitol at the moment but they don't seem to be making much difference.
