Breathing problems 3yo

My 3yo daughter has had four short stays in hospital in the past year with breathing difficulties - viral induced wheeze and/or pneumonia.

For about 6 months she has been having a brown steroid inhaler twice a day and has had no breathing problems.

Recently she has had a bad cough - but it hasn’t gone on to her chest - she is not wheezing and GP has listened to her chest and agreed it is clear so has suggested stopping the inhalers.

However she has regularly and pretty consistently got a high respiratory rate (about 60 breaths per minute) and heart rate (about 145bpm) and her O2 sats are often low (around 93). ((We bought our own Oximeter after her second stay in hospital)).

GP has referred to a cardiologist in case it is due to a heart murmur but she doesn’t think it is likely. I am not looking for medical advice but just wondering if anyone else had experienced anything like this with their little ones?

It is just a bit of a mystery to me because she is happy and thriving - there’s no sign that’s she’s ill really - but she does breathe very quickly - almost panting even when she’s just sitting still. I had just sort of assumed that it was asthma and that maybe she’d grow out of it but now the GP suggested stopping the inhaler I don’t know what to think!

Asthma? DD has a high resp rate, increased heart rate and low O2 sats when her asthma is flaring up.

Oh mummyme32 we are loving parallel lives! My 3 year old ds is the same- hospital, viral induced wheeze, blue and brown inhaler. Apparently common to grow out of it but could be asthma which wouldn't be diagnosed until 5. My ds is a"happy wheezer" and often has high rate and reps. Were on the brown inhaler and staying on it until spring after our hospital visits last year through winter!

Yes Piixxiiee that sounds so similar! I read all about happy wheezers online last time she was in hospital. Hope your little boy has a healthy winter 🤞🏼

Bloodwhitecat - DH has asthma so I’ve always just sort of thought it must be some sort of asthma thing with her too - but now they are taking her off the inhalers I’m a bit worried it might be something else. 🤷🏼‍♀️

GP said if it gets worse without inhalers then we with just restart immediately so maybe I’m worrying about nothing! 🙈
