Will his cheek scar?

My almost 3 year old fell 6 weeks ago, he just tripped over his own feet while running but he landed face first onto the edge of a plastic toy. It came up as what we thought was just a surface cut really but he cried a lot so it must have hurt.
It’s 6 weeks later and there is still the red line on his cheek. I’m terrified it’s going to scar his little face.
Do these things just take a long time to heal in toddlers? Photo of when he first did it to give an idea.

Will his cheek scar?

Yes it can take a long time to heal, I don’t think that would scar long term. My dd split her eye open (near her eyebrow) needing stitches under anaesthetic when she was 2 it took about a year for the redness to go and now it’s hardly noticeable. That scar looks a lot more superficial so I would expect it would heal completely, you can always keep it well moisturised which will help

Use Bio oil - massage it in twice a day to minimise risk of scarring

DS (nearly 3) got a similar injury in his face - it took forever to not be noticeable... it was probably raised and red for about 4 months or more but it seems to have gone now.

Thanks all. I was hoping it was to do with his age and just it takes a while to heal. I was just surprised that it’s been noticeable so such a long time when it wasn’t even a deep cut.

I fell when I was about 16, put a big cut and scar under my nose and cracked a tooth. I went to the doctors and the gave me an ointment that was to reduce the redness of scarring, usually for people who have had eye surgery. Work within a couple of days after months of redness. Didn't fix the scar tissue but completely took the redness away.

It won’t scar I’m sure. I know how worrying it feels. It will eventually disappear but may take many months. Try not to worry. My son cut his lip and had stitches I was so worried it would stay for life but eight months on it’s so much better and probably will eventually disappear. If your sons was only a surface cut I’m pretty sure it will go. Good luck.

I agree use bio oil. They told me too at the hospital too.

I split my top lip in two when I was three after a tv fell on me. Healed like a charm and not noticeable now at all.
