Irregular periods in teen, GP ?

My dd is 14 , nearly 15, and started her periods two and a half years ago. At the beginning they were irregular, quite spaced out. She has auto immune thyroid disease and her periods started very suddenly once she was properly medicated. They have been slightly more regular over the past year, but her cycle is still long, and her periods themselves seem to go on a bit too long. This past month she had all the signs of a period, then some brown bleeding mid cycle ish , then three weeks later more brown bleeding like the end of a period but no period. She is worrying about it as all her friends are regular now. She did mention it in passing to her consultant recently (but not very clearly apparently, I wasn’t there as DH had taken her) he didn’t seem concerned. Should I check with the GP or is this normal for teenagers ? My cycle was absolutely regular from the first one, but I started at 16.
Could her thyroid be a factor ?

I would suggesting going back with her and speaking with the GP about it. I was a bit like that when I was a teenager, they just put me on the pill to regulate it. But if you (or she) is concerned, definitely worth asking about.

Thanks. Our GP is generally a bit dismissive about things, so I might ask her consultant instead. She does seem hormonally out of kilter. Terrible PMT, but periods not regular.
