Repeated ear ache question

My daughter is now 9 years old. Since she was little, every time she gets a cold she has earache. Sometimes hurting a bit, sometimes extremely painful. Our local surgery understandably doesn't give antibiotics for ear infections. So we try to deal with it at home. My question is, if it's repeated with almost every cold, SHOULD I take her? Is there a problem that needs sorting? Or is it just one of those things she's prone too?

If it clears up on it's own without the drum bursting then I wouldn't take her.

I take ds because his ear infections typically need antibiotics to clear, and his drum usually bursts. He's also had 3 lots of grommets so they like to monitor how many ear infections he's currently getting.

At 9yo they'll probably just tell you that most children grow out of it by 10yo. It's to do with the size of the ear canal. I'd probably be inclined to ask for a telephone consultation at some point, give dates of how many she's had and how long she was ill (and extra details like if her ear drum burst) and see if they think there's anything that they can do. I suspect they'll say no, but come back in a couple of years if it's still going on.

Also how many is she getting. Round here they're not interested until you've hit 8 in a 3 month period. At ds's worst 8 in a 2 month period was a good time.
