Newborn cows milk allergy or reflux?

Anyone have experience of cows milk allergy in newborns?

My 6 week old is growing well, but frequently brings up a clear speckled fluid about 30-60 mins after a feed. Also sometimes what looks like curdled milk. He gets sniffly at night and frequently coughs and splutters when he's not drinking...he also had newborn acne which has cleared but gets rashy spots on his face again after a feed.

I have a gp appt on Friday but just wondered what other people have experienced with their little ones! Thanks

Is he BF or FF? I'm asking as they can react quicker/stronger when FF as the proteins are directly received.

My combination fed newborn screamed in pain after feeding, his stomach was bloated and you could hear loud gurgling. All poo was diarrhoea and burned his skin- he had nappy rash with open blisters. He refluxed a lot and reflux medication didn't really help as it was his body rejecting the milk. He had a red sporty rash all over his torso. We saw three GPs in the first few weeks who all dismissed it as either colic or reflux. Thankfully the GP who did our six week check believed me (I took a symptom list from that internet and showed how many he had) and gave us a trial of prescription milk.

Sorry I forgot to add, he also coughed a lot but that can be both allergy or because of the acid in the throat from the reflux.

Have you noticed an improvement with the new formula?

He's FF so keen to make sure it's not that

He also has a very gurgly tummy while feeding actually

He improved on the formula the Dr put him on (one called Nutramigen, which has the milk proteins broken down to make them easier to digest) although not fully and so we ended up being referred to a hospital GI consultant (he wasn't gaining weight either) and ended up on a completely hypoallergenic formula. Once he was on the right stuff, he thrived and now he's nearly two he's slender, and still has food allergies, but he's happy and growing along the 25th centile.

I'm currently expecting again and so waiting to see if this one can tolerate dairy or not.

It sounds like he could have one or both, my youngest has both, keep on at the GP’s until they do something would be my advice. I also took a list of symptoms for the GP to see.

Ok thank you both!

I'll see how we get on at the docs on Friday Smile
