Daughter's endless cough

Suzie81 · 04/11/2019 06:55

My three year old always seems to have a cough.

It started with a normal cold that passed, but she then seemed to adopt a habit cough/throat clearing thing. If you told her to stop she would, until she was distracted and started doing it again. Equally, he habit one wouldn't happen at night when sleeping.

Now we seem to trundle between real colds and coughs and her habitual one! Driving me mad.

Anything I can do?

Pop to the GP to make sure it's not asthma?

My son had (has) this- GP suspects asthma- it’s apparently too young to officially diagnose them though, so he’s given us an inhaler and listed it as ‘respiratory distress’.

FWIW, my asthma also manifests as a cough/ urge to clear my throat.

I had wondered about that. My brothers both had it when they were kids, but she's never weasy or out of breath like I remember them being. I'll raise...

Funnily enough I've just come on to this section to see if there was any threads about this. I took my son to the docs today as he's had a cough for about 3 weeks but mainly at night. We have to go back in 3 weeks if no improvement for "asthma tests". Does it come on that suddenly do you think? I'd take you little one to the GP.

Perhaps it's an allergy to something.
Make sure her bedding is anti dust mite as well as anti allergy.
