High temperature WWYD?

DD 16mo has a temperature of 39 degrees. She's finding it very difficult to sleep but otherwise does not seem distressed. I've read that paracetamol should not be used routinely to treat fever unless they're uncomfortable. Would you give Calpol or not?

I would give the calpol. If she isn't sleeping as she normally would then something is bothering her.

I read up on this recently and read an article that said that UP to 38.5 degrees the high temperature is useful for fighting infection but that above that it is worth treating.

I would medicate for 39 degrees if it's bothering her which it sounds as though it is.

Above 39 my DD tends to be jittery and maybe vomit. Below 38.5 and she's almost her normal self!

I'd definitely give Calpol

marmiteloversunite · 31/10/2019 21:22

Calpol definitely. Strip her off and cold wet flannel on forehead if she can cope with that.

RolytheRhino · 31/10/2019 21:25

Thanks, I've given her the calpol.

I believe advice has changed and they don't recommend stripping clothes off them or cold cloths any more.

marmiteloversunite · 31/10/2019 21:59

Ah sorry. My kids are 20 and 17 so probably has changed Blush

Loaf90 · 31/10/2019 22:00

Give Calpol and don't wrap her up in lots of layers

boogiebogie · 02/11/2019 23:34

I wouldn't

I've got child who has seizures due to fever and still recommends stripping but no wet cloths..... fever in any child over 38.5 its recommended to have Paracetamol..DS has hit 42.5 so we calpol lots but TBH it does work to let fever kill off the bugs !
