My DS has just been diagnosed with hand, foot and mouth. Does anyone have any tips for dealing? He's spent the last two days crying almost constantly and even hey duggee doesn't work!

Lots of soft food and cold foods, so yoghurt, ice lollies, mash, watermelon, even milkshakes and smoothies. Keep dosed up with Calpol and ibuprofen if needed. You can use anbesol liquid on any particularly sore spots in mouth. Hope he's better soon!

Thank you, the ice lolly worked a treat!

Calpol, nurofen, ice cold foods, straw for drinking, anbesol liquid, suffer, suffer, suffer until it passes. I really sympathise with you, my ds also cried constant with it, the nights are awful!

Agree with paracetamol and plenty of fluids.
A strange thing happened to my little ds exactly 6 weeks after having it, every single finger and toe nail fell off!!
Apparently it’s very common.
They all grew back absolutely fine but bizarre, just bizarre.

Yep lots of paracetamol

If there are lots of spots you can get a weak steroid cream which helps with the itching

I do smoothies - whizzed up oats, banana, yoghurt, milk and berries - to get some calories and nutrition in them as well as being soothing

Sympathies OP. It’s awful for them and exhausting for you!

When my ds had this his finger and toe nails peeled. Was really strange. Agree with others regular paracetamol and ibruprophen. Lots of cold soft food and drinks and a straw.
