Cats, worms. Kids?

My cat threw up a long flat white worm yesterday, I'm really grossed out and worrying that my kids might catch them Confused I've already treated the cats and dog again with a different brand then we usually use, and will treat again in 2 weeks. I've kept on top of worming but obviously it's not worked, they did catch fleas in the summer and from googling they can get the worms from ingesting a infected flea, so that may be the source, or the fact they keep bringing back and eating mice and rats from the field behind our house.
Is it worth going to the doctor's to get treatment for myself, OH and kids? Or am I just been dramatic as it's the one thing that makes my skin crawl.
Google is giving conflicting advice on how likely it is to catch worms from cats. Appreciate any advice
