My son is really straining for a poo after a feed and his poos are solid and pellet like.

Is there anything I can give him to ease the constipation or is it a trip to the GP?

Prunes are meant to help. But it would be worth a trip to the GP as soon as you can get an appointment.

Is he breast or formula fed?as changing his milk to colic and constipation might help.offering a little water between feed to help soften the poo.baby massage if he can tolerate it
failing that speak to health visitor/midwife Gp

If you look at the ellas kitchen 4 month + baby food there is a prune one. We gave our dc these when trying solids and it was a poo explosion definitely kept her regular!

I 2nd the ellas kitchen prune pouch!

My understanding is colic milk causes constipation so i wouldnt change

I also used the Ella’s prune pouch!

Also pure prune juice which I diluted with cooled boiled water worked for DC

Ease off on the solids a little if he's started already so his tummy has time to get used to food. When mine was constipated after starting solids I would hold him in the "poo pose" over the toilet - sort of hold them in a squat. It really helped.
