Stitches still in place

DC had a minor operation two weeks ago and had sutures and wound glue to hold the area together.

Area around wound looks good and healing nicely, however there is still quite a substantial amount of glue around the area and all of the sutures are still in place.

DC absolutely will not let us near the area, was quite traumatic at the time when operation was done.

At what point do I take DC to see someone regarding stitches and if DC needs to see someone who do I go to? GP? Hospital that did the surgery?

I would have expected a hospital follow up to check the wound and then after that a GP visit to remove stitches or stitches Removed at hospital. Did they not arrange this? Or are they dissolving stitches?

How old? Where is the wound? Dissolvable stitches can take weeks to come out. Took my sons 6 weeks to fully fall out.

Primary aged DC, dissolvable stitches. Behind their ear. We have a follow up but not until middle of October.

In personal experience they take so long. I wouldn't be concerned 2 weeks post surgery there still there. At the 6-7 week mark they maybe but the GP generally won't be concerned

Soluble sutures can take weeks and weeks to dissolve, and the glue usually washes away within a couple of weeks.

You should be able to get it wet now which will soften the sutures and glue.

I would say if the stitches are still visible after about 6 weeks think about making an appointment with the practice nurse at your surgery. See someone sooner if you’re worried about infection.

Dd had this on her tummy and the stitches were there for months. We were advised to soak the area in the bath as the water would soften and dissolve the stitches- this really worked.
