Undescended testicle operation age 5 - recovery

Our (almost) 5 year old son is having an operation to bring down an undescended testicle in a couple of weeks.

He had a hypospadias repair op 3 years ago so we at least have some experience with the hospital side of things / anaesthetic etc.

Could I ask for peoples experiences with recovery ? Time off school, sports, swimming etc? Any tips for recovery.

Thank you!

No advice on recovery, but please ask the doctors about fertility. My DH is infertile following very delayed orchidoplexy surgeries - aged 3 and 9 - and has 0 motile sperm. Not one. To be fair though, this was on both testicles, so many not be an issue for your son.

We didn't find out until after 2 years of TTC, as we didn't understand the implications, and it has never been discussed with his parents.

@TwattingDog I’m so sorry to hear that 😔. It’s one of my biggest concerns for him.

No tip on time of recovery but make sure you stock up of calpol and keeps the wounds as clean as possible. He will be sore for a few days.

All the best x
