Nasal dermoid cysts

My DS is 10 weeks old and was born with a small hole in the bridge of his nose. At the time the hospital pediatrician said she had never seen this before but said it was merely cosmetic and to keep it clean. Now it seems he may have a nasal dermoid cyst and I'm awaiting a referral to confirm.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

I know this is a couple of months old but I'm hoping you pick it up. I just wondered how u managed to get a diagnosis? My daughter is 7 months old and since birth has had a small hold on the bridge of her nose. I feel like it's becoming more prominent as she gets older. I've asked her doctor about it but I feel like I was just brushed off. I'm thinking about paying to see a ENT specialist privately as I think it could be a nasal dermoid cyst

Hi, thanks for your message. I printed the info sheets from the GOSH website and went to my GP. It took me a double appointment but as she was the paediatric specialist GP she listened to me and read the print outs I brought. She'd never seen a NDC before and was shocked about the treatment and immediately agreed to refer us. We saw the ENT in November and they confirmed the diagnosis. Now awaiting the MRI.

There's a fantastic group on FB and that has loads of support and advice. It's tough but I would suggest you keep going on back to the GP for a referral. Depending on where in the country (or world) you are someone on the FB is likely to know of a private specialist. Good luck and Thanks I know it's a worrying time.

So pleased I’ve found this post - I’m pretty sure my daughter has one on the bridge of her nose, it’s been there since birth (she’s 2 now) but every time we’ve flagged it with docs/health visitors we’ve just been told it’s cosmetic and not to worry. Stuff started coming out of it a while ago and I’m now waiting for a docs appt to get a referral. What’s the details of the FB group you mentioned? Would love to get some other people’s experience of this.
