weak ankle - support socks?

dc (pre teen) twisted ankle before the summer holidays.
nothing broken or torn (checked by dr).
rest helped and foot was back to normal.
over summer we were quite active, cycling and hiking without issues.
now school started with 3x pe (athletics outside until half term) a week plus basket ball after school club.
ankle hurts again.

would a support sock/tubi grip help?

we do physio exercises to strengthen the ankle and school/club do proper warm up and stretches.

Is your Son or Daughters ankle swollen?

What type of pain do they have on exercise? Have you tired anything aside from rest? Like an ice bath? It's really good. Athletes do it regularly for recovery.

I wouldn't be jumping straight for support brace altho a support sock would give some support not as much as the shop bought brace

no swelling at all.
right after it was twisted it was slightly bruised.
it's a dull ache after pe/basketball. not during.

it was x rayed and examined and nothing untowards was found and it seemed to heal well and activities over summer were no problem.

Where is the pain? How old is you son/daughter?

cakeandchampagne · 07/09/2019 17:32

I would get the doctor’s advice.

pain is around the ankle but only after exercise not during,
dc is 10.

It's a difficult one. Personally if it was my sons I wouldn't be getting them to rely on a sock or brace but might be worth a try for a week or two.

Could be their boots? Do they fit well?

Do you have the app LIVI? The online GP app used in some parts of the UK?

More physio excercises and back to see the physio if no improvement after a month.

support sock and back to physio if it doesn't improve fast looks like a good plan.
will also check shoes/boots if they fit properly. only got them 3 weeks ago but dc grows like mad atm.

new trainers, basketball style seem to do the trick.
we've also seen a physio and have some more exercised we do every other night.

we will see after dc outgrows them next week or so

hopefully that's that.

thanks all!
