Hi my lovely 4 yo son woke up on Tuesday with swelling to both eyes, no redness , pus or irritation, looks like odeama. Otherwise well, saw the gp on the day sent urine for pcr as slight positive on dip stick , said as other wise well just keep testing urine and keep in touch. Swelling resolved almost completely over next 2 days. Thursday he started with d and v. High temp, looked lousy. Went back to gp on friday and they sent us to a and e for bloods.

They decided to admit us which I was surprised about as by now hes very happily playing with me and his dad. They wanted to rule out nephrotic syndrome so bloods, await results see if swelling recurs. Fine.

Bloods taken and sent last night . I've just had a look at the results and u and e ok creatinine a bit high 42 bit hes not drinking enough. The FBC has really frightened me though his wcc is 3.2 and lymphocytes 1.12, basophils also low normal 0.03. Obviously google is terrifying me, I know I'm not going to see a dr for hours. Can any one help or advise

I can’t advise but hope you get your answers soon from the doctors investigating your son’s symptoms. Anything else you are told on here would be speculation. It must be a very worrying situation for you.

Thanks Freada :) just wanted to share with someone as I'm here on my own, dont want to call my husband yet as I dont actually know anything, just speculating. Also you never know when you might happen across an off duty haematologist!

Incase anyone stumbles upon this at a later date, seen by consultant, low wcc likely due to viral infection, repeat bloods in 2 weeks to check it has bounced back, monitor urine for protein, DS delighted to have to pee into cups every other day.

Sounds like it will hopefully be better soon. Fingers crossed for you.

Very glad you have had reassuring news.

Low normal is still normal! And I hope it stays normal.
