Toddler drinking loads but dark wee?

Yesterday nursery mentioned DS (2.8) had pointed around his tummy/groin a couple of times and said 'ow'. He has eczema and recently developed a patch near his groin so we assumed it was that. I took him to the GP this morning to get a new topical.

Today nursery said he has drank loads and loads of water, to the point they stopped him from drinking anymore. Consequently weed a lot too. My mum had him a couple of days ago for a few hours and mentioned how much he drinks, I just agreed, he has always been a big drinker, particularly if juice is on offer so it isn't alarming (he did completely flood his nappy that day too). One of his siblings is a big drinker too so I don't worry too much.

I've not noticed any out of the ordinary thirst today, but he has done a few radioactive colour wees on the potty. If it was diabetes, the wee would be clear would it not?

Everything I've googled says dehydration or B6 supplements (he doesn't take any) are the causes of bright urine, would a UTI cause it? I've heard UTI's in young boys is extremely rare. I know he needs to see a GP, bit it's Friday night and I'm just worrying a bit and wondered if anyone has any ideas? He is otherwise well in himself. I could take him to walk in tomorrow with a sample.

Forgot to mention, he complained of a sore tummy again just before, and pointed low down towards the right. Any ideas anyone?

Just in case anyone finds this by searching the same problem, turns out the biohazard bright wee is from Robinson's orange cordial. It contains carotenes.

He is well in himself other than a slight cold and being wheezy. But weeing a lot and he has been having long naps recently, and his eczema is fungal at the moment which apparently is common with diabetes so I am a bit paranoid after the nursery drinking comment and I will take a sample in to the GP tomorrow as a precaution.
