It’s now day 11 of 5 month old DS having diarrhoea. Around 8 poos a day, there isn’t actually that much of it each time, but it’s explosive and accompanied by lots of wind. He’s mixed fed both breast milk and formula. The health visitor booked us an appointment to see her three days ago, his weight was fine and he didn’t appear dehydrated so she said just to wait until it passes. He seemed to get the diarrhoea at the same time that we started having infant gaviscon for reflux, so we were advised to stop the gaviscon but he’s still got the diarrhoea so I don’t think that’s the cause.
It was hot last night and DS felt quite sweaty but this morning when he woke his nappy was still dry so he hadn’t weed all night, so now I’m worried it’s dehydrating him. I’ve tried giving him some cooled boiled water but he pushes it away when he realises it isn’t milk.
I’ve rang the doctors at 8am this morning to get an appointment to be told that there isn’t any and I need to phone back to try again in the morning! I’m going to try and get as much breast milk in him in the meantime to try and keep him hydrated, but my supply isn’t great anymore hence him being mixed fed.
Other than the diarrhoea he is fine in himself, no temperature, not off his milk, but is teething and dribbling non stop, poking at his gums in agitation and biting down on anything he can. I think I can feel one of his bottom teeth under his gums. But would teething really cause diarrhoea for this long? The health visitor told me that there is no link between teething and diarrhoea but I’ve spoken to many mums who says there is?
