Paediatric cardiologist

Looking for advice, please:

Can anyone recommend a private paediatric cardiologist (preferably in the south west)?

DD has a suspected PDA and her appointment isn't until November. Would seeing a private consultant affect her NHS care?

Thanks.

Have you considered these people whom are fantastic and do full screening with results sent direct to your consultant www.c-r-y.org.uk/screening/

Thank you for replying.

It's for over 14 years and DD is 2.

Are there private paeds cardiologists? It's a very specialised field.

My son was supposed to be seen at our local hospital for routine screening but they kept cancelling and rearranging his appointment which was time sensitive as he needed screening before having (unrelated) surgery. I had to be quite proactive (lots of calls to secretaries etc), but I managed to get him seen at Bristol Children's Hospital within a week.

Is she managing ok? If anything had changed you need to either go back to your GP and get them to expedite the referral, or if things have drastically changed, A&E

There are a few around Bristol. Use google or Bupa find a doctor.

It won’t affect your NHS pathway.

Not sure about South West but would recommend Professor John Simpson at the Evelina in London

My dd was under the cardio team at the Evelina. We went private (through axa) for a couple of other things (not cardio) and were offered appts the same week.

I've been in touch with Evelina today. Dr Miller.

I've been in touch with Bristol to see if they can offer anything sooner and if not I think I'll go with Evelina.

Our hospital doesn't have paediatric cardiology. A consultant from Bristol does a clinic once a month so the waiting list is huge.

I did ask about the NHS waiting list for the cardio procedure DS needed as a baby and it was about 4-6 months longer than the time I waited to have it done privately

NannaNoodleman · 19/08/2019 13:09

I know there's nothing that can be done about waiting lists and volume of patients etc. It's just such an anxious wait. I feel like I'll lose my marbles if we have to wait 3 months for a proper conclusive diagnosis and care plan.
