Appendectomy and returning to activities

My 9yr old DD has over the weekend had her appendix removed, the surgeon said 2-4 weeks to get back to normal activity and to be guided by her on how much she's comfortable doing.
That would probably be fine for normal activity and pe when school returns but she plays rugby which I specifically asked about but the above was the response.

What was the experience of others and their children returning to more boisterous activities?

(I understand each person is different but wanted a general view on experiences)

I would wait a bit longer for rugby, maybe 6-8 weeks. I was told to wait 8 weeks after my c-section before picking up my then 6 year old.
