A couple of months ago my son got his finger caught in a window. It broke his nail and we were referred for hand therapy (where they gave him a small splint, and then plaster for his finger). There was talk that he might need a little operation to remove the damaged nail if it looked like his new nail wasn't going to grow back properly.
After three appointments they said that the nail looked fine and would fall off on it's on accord without any need for an operation (which we were very relieved to avoid!).
In due course the nail fell off. His new nail has already started growing and the nail fell off seemed complete. However a couple of days later I noticed he had a bit of nail left at the top that wasn't connected To the new nail. I had previously thought it was dry skin. My husband kept reassuring that the random bit of nail would too fall off. Well the random bit of nail hasn't fallen off and it looks like his new nail is growing over it.
My son is still registered as a patient at the hospital hand therapy clinic for three months after his last appointment and I will be booking appointment but I'm a bit worried now he might need to have that operation if his new nail is getting deformed by the random bit. The new nail is still half way up the bed and looks really thick at the top.

I was hoping someone on here might have some knowledge on the matter or a similar experience?
Many thanks in advance
