Hi.

We are currently in the USA. My 13yr old daughter often gets uti symptoms at home and has on occasion had kidney stones in the past.
Obviously it’s fairly hot out here in Florida. She has pain in her flank area and is weeing flakes. We are pumping her with fluids and have managed to get cranberry juice too. But its persistent.

I have amoxicillin to hand (as I have stores for ongoing sinusitis) and azirhromycin (as my other daughter has chest issues)

What’s best to give her and what dose??

I’m not concerned and feel confident to treat myself. I just need to know the dose for her age and which is the best antibiotics to use.

Many thanks

Neither of those. Lots of UTIs are amoxicillin resistant, and the only UTIs likely to be treated by azithromycin are STDs. See a doctor.

Yes, neither is appropriate. See a doctor.

See a dr. Don’t self prescribe ab’s.

For a UTI in an ideal world it would be treated with Nitrofuarntoin. Giving Amoxicillin May work but unlikely as usually not first line of defence. What was amoxicillin prescribed for your daughter?

The symptoms you describe sound like a UTI.

Note I'm not a Doc but I work I'm a pre hospital medic 🤙🏻

Thanks everyone.

We are home now. I got her cranberry tablets and made her drink a bottle of water an hour. She seemed to flush whatever it was out of her system. She often gets uti symptoms and has suffered with stones in the past. She’s only 13. Her dad has one kidney. So I’m always worried when she sets off with such symptoms.

(The amoxicillin was for me on a ‘just in case’ basis)
