Advice on dealing with a possible tummy bug in 8mo

I would appreciate some help as this is the first time my baby has been ill and I'm a bit clueless!

DD threw up on Sunday pretty much out of the blue, though she was refusing solids in the morning and only wanting to breastfeed. Since then she's been doing runny poos and I've had to go and get her from nursery today with the instruction to keep her off until she's doing solid poos again. They say there's been a bug going round so she's probably got it, though she hasn't had a temperature and is perfectly happy.

Now what's the best thing to do? Am tempted to keep her off the solids until it's out her system but will exclusive breastfeeding for a day or so mean her poos will be liquid anyway? Should I be giving BRAT?

Hi, I would stick to small amounts of the brat diet for her for a few days and plenty of breastfeeds and water.

Hi OP

It's important to keep your LO at home until at least 48 hours after the last episode of D or V. This will help to prevent the bug spreading, and will ensure they are feeling better before they start back at nursery etc.

Tummy bugs don't usually tend to come with a fever.

Small children get V and D for all sorts of reasons - teething, colds, fevers, food sensitivity, etc. So it's hard to be sure of the cause.. unless someone else catches it!

I would advise sticking with breastmilk (fluids are very important) but also offering plain, dryish, non-greasy, non-acidy foods and see how it goes.

Hope she feels better very soon!

Thanks a lot. No diarrhoea since yesterday lunchtime so fingers crossed it's gone!
