Toddler with tickly cough

Don't know if it's allergies, the onset of asthma (she's atopic) or some kind of bad throat thing but my daughter who is 22 months has an awful tickly cough. It's annoying for her but manageable during the day, but destroying her sleep. She's not getting any unbroken rest and is so overtired and sad.
I still bf but hardly have any milk left even though she's asking constantly for comfort.
I can hear her swallowing excessively trying to stop the cough reflex.
I'm going to take her to the gp on Monday as this has been going on a while but has just got worse and worse...
But, in the meantime, any amazing tips to help soothe it so she (and I) can get some sleep tonight?

Vicks vapor rub on her feet at night - works wonders

You can try the above advise but it doesn't work for all, I tried it on my ds and it had no effect whatsoever. He gets a cough nearly all winter triggered by constant colds and has sleep apnea so I know how the broken unrestful sleep feels. She is old enough now to try a spoonful of honey to coat the throat which may help, keep her sleeping at a propped up angle, cup of water or squash by the bed all night (or sippy) but definitely go back to the gp and see if they will provide an inhaler for her which may help.
