Night cough

My 4 year old has been suffering from a night cough the past couple of nights. Sounds really chesty starts in the evening. He's been up being sick with it. Still croaky and chesty in the morning. Then about after 9 o'clock he's fine all day again. Would it be a cough or maybe hayfever. His eyes do look a wee bit irritated. His sister suffers from it but her symptoms are more noticeable. Sneezing. Watery eyes. Swollen eyes sometimes.

Give him a dose of Piriton at bedtime. It could be hay fever or it could be as a result of a post-nasal drip from a lingering cold. Piriton would address either.

I don't have Piriton. Would his sisters medicine do I know its probably the same thing its prescribed from the doctors.

Check the label - Piriton is chlorphenamine maleate. If it says that on your DD’s medication, it’s the same thing. Alternatively citirizine is fine, but doesn’t have the handy sedative effect of Piriton. Both are antihistamines you can get over the counter for children but your GP may prescribe if your DD needs frequently. You’d use 2.5mL of chlorphenamine/Piriton for a 4yo and the same amount of liquid citirizine.
