Hormonal migraine in 16 year old

My 16 year old daughter has for the last 4 months had what we now believe to be quite debilitating headaches just before her period, we have been keeping a track of them and they happen a few days before her period starts, paracetamol just doesn’t touch them, all that seems to work is to go back to bed for 2 days, which obviously is not practical. I’m going to take her to the gp, but would like as much advice before hand, I’m thinking the pill but not sure how that works to prevent head aches, any advice gratefully received.

I had migraines during my teens and was given a specific medication so they may be another option.
I did grow out of them being so frequent before I reached 20 if I remember right and I may only get 1 every 12-18 months now.

I started taking the pill in my early twentys and had to stop as the migraines returned, I then found out my mum had the same issue with the pill and migraines.
